Tips to inflate a latex balloon into the perfect teardrop shape:
- Gently pull and stretch the balloon a few times to make it easier to inflate.
- Place the balloon opening over the nozzle of a balloon pump or helium nozzle, depending on the method of inflation.
- Pump the air into the balloon slowly.
- Stop when it reaches the desired size. If the balloon begins to bulge, allow some air out until it looks like a teardrop.
- Under-inflated balloons will be round in shape, have reduced float times, and will appear less shiny.
- Never inflate the neck of a balloon; this space is needed to tie the knot to secure the air.
- Overinflated balloons have a light bulb shape (see image below) and are more likely to pop due to the latex being overstretched.
- Using a balloon sizer will guarantee a perfectly shaped and sized balloon.
- Pinch the neck of the balloon, stretch it, and wrap it around two fingers to make a loop. Pull the end through the loop and tie a knot.
