MagicArch™ balloons, made by Anagram, are four foil balloons that are attached at the center (see image). The balloon is manufactured with a hole in the middle for a pole or string to go through. These balloons are typically used to make columns or grand arches for entranceways.
We carry many different colors and different sizes of MagicArch™, including 16-inch and 30-inch balloons. Anagram also makes products:
- (#23210) MagicArch™ B-Day Blitz Centre Piece (23-inch)
- (#23211) MagicArch™ B-Day Blitz Balloon Column (72-inch)
MagicArch™ balloons and columns can be set up using a kit or a DIY technique. Bargain Balloons does not sell any kits. If a DIY technique is being used, bases can be any sturdy hard material (ex. metal, wood, etc).
To set up MagicArch™ balloons, you will require bases and poles which are sold separately from balloons. PVC pipes can also be used and cut to any desired length for the arch.
Base and Arch
Bases and poles will be included if you are using a kit. The bases should be placed 8 ft. to 11 ft. apart and then attach the pole to the center of the base and turn to lock (if applicable). Inflate balloons through the valves with an inflator or balloon pump. The tip of the inflator or pump needs to be inserted in the right direction or else the balloon will not inflate.
Please Note: Balloons can also be inflated with helium. However, if there’s no need for balloons to float then using air is recommended.
Use this MagicArch™ Balloons calculator to calculate how many balloons you will need.
Step 1: Calculate Arch Length
- Arch with a higher height and shorter base width
(2 x height) + width = approximate total length
- Arch with a wider base and shorter in height
width= height = Approximate length
- Arch equal height and width
(1.5 x Height) + Width = Approximate length
Step 2: Converting the total length measurement into inches
- Width + height = approximate total length in feet.
- multiply the approximate length by 12 to convert from feet to inches.
Example: Width=15 feet and height =10 feet
10+15= 25 feet in approximate total length
25 feet x 12 = 300 inches
Step 3:
- Divide total inches by 7.8 inches
300 inches ÷ 7.8 inches = 39 MagicArch™ Units (always round up)
Please Note: It is always best to have a couple of extra balloons when dealing with exact measurements to allow for Anagram's “defect rate” of 5%.
Instructions
Helium Filled MagicArch™
- Use the MagicArch™ calculator* to determine the number of balloons needed.
- Cut Monofilament Archline (#43964-32170) to desired arch length plus two extra feet. (Monofilament should not be used with MagicArch™).
- Attach one end of the archline to a heavyweight (brick, water weight, etc).
- Inflate the first Magic Arch™ unit with helium (Be sure to use the right nozzle).
- Thread the archline through the center of the MagicArch™ balloon.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all MagicArch™ units are attached. (Turn each unit ¼ a turn for a snug fit).
- Secure the archline to a second heavyweight (brick, water weight, etc.).
Air Filled MagicArch™
- Use the MagicArch™ calculator* to determine the number of balloons needed.
- Attach one 5 ft. tall ¾-inch conduit to the base plates.
- Air inflate all the MagicArch™ units using a hand pump or Mini Cool Air Inflator. (Valve will be damaged if AirForce 4 is used).
- Thread the MagicArch™ through the ¾-inch conduit attached to the base plate, and repeat until the conduit is covered. Repeat for the second conduit that is attached to the other base plate.
- Insert the 1/8-inch aluminum rod into one side of the ¾-inch conduit.
- Thread the MagicArch™ through the 1/8-inch aluminum rod.
- Bend the 1/8-inch aluminum rod and place it inside the second conduit that is attached to the other base plate. (Adjust the height of the arch by adding or removing length to the aluminum rod.)
Things to know
A few customers have said they have trouble finding the valve direction in these balloons. Please look at the balloon carefully before inserting the valve stem into the balloon to avoid damage to the balloon.
If you are still having trouble use a pen to find the direction of the valve stem. Once you find the direction of one balloon it should be straightforward how the rest of them need to be inserted.
If there is a defective balloon after the arch is set up– it will need to be cut out of the arch carefully not to damage the other balloons around it. Once it is out you will need to disassemble a joint and add a new balloon.
