Anything added to a balloon adds additional weight and will affect float times. It is recommended to use a lightweight, non-metallic ribbon for long-lasting professional results. A heavier ribbon should only be used with larger balloons with more lift-ability because the more helium a balloon requires the more it will lift it will have.
An 18-inch balloon will stop floating if the ribbon and/or weight is more than 6 to 8 grams in weight and a 36-inch balloon will stop floating if the ribbon is more than 50 grams.
