A non-metallic, non-conductive ribbon such as curling ribbon is recommended. Do not use metallic ribbon because it could cause the balloon to pop. Another danger with using a metallic ribbon is if a balloon escapes and the ribbon touches an electrical pole or power line, it will cause a power outage.
