The Canary Islands Shipping Costs and Delivery Times

Modified on Thu, 23 Mar 2023 at 05:30 PM

The Canary Islands is a Spanish group of islands off the northwestern coast of Africa– about 100 km from the Moroccan coast. Even though The Canary Islands are a part of Spain and the EU, it is an autonomous community with a population of over 2 million people.

Bargain Balloons can ship to the Canary Islands, but there are some shipping restraints to be aware of before placing an order.

Orders are shipped with either UPS or FedEx and the cost of shipping starts at $39.83 which is calculated at checkout. Delivery time is 4 to 7 business days, assuming there are no delays with the courier company or customs, however, expect a delay of a few days in many cases.

We typically prefer not to ship to The Canary Islands using UPS because we find the delays are much longer. However, it can be available upon request or it may be the only option available the day it is shipped out.

FedEx officials say, the procedures to import are that the receiver must clear the parcel and pay any duties and taxes. Bargain Balloons normally takes care of this for our customers, unfortunately, we cannot do this for orders shipped to The Canary Islands, which often leads to additional charges and delivery delays.

The courier company will reach out to the recipient of the parcel to help them with clearance. Shipments to The Canary Islands will require the recipient’s, NIN (Número de Identificación de Extranjeros). FedEx and/or UPS do not complete deliveries, but a local agent such as the post office does.

Please Note: As an autonomous community of Spain, The Canary Islands is not part of the EU’s VAT free movement of goods arrangement. It maintains its own VAT system, which largely mirrors that of Spain.

All shipments must be Broker Selected Option (BSO), which means FedEx or UPS, will not act as the broker, and a broker is required to clear goods being imported into the Canary Islands. Therefore, the receiver has to provide the broker's address and telephone number in advance to avoid delays. FedEx will arrange a broker for shipments that arrive in Spain with no broker indicated, but this will likely delay the shipment.

A Commercial Invoice (CI) is required– which Bargain Balloons supplies to FedEx or UPS. The recipient's EIN/VAT/NIN number is required for clearance purposes.

Please Note: The Canary Islands has a 4.5% General Indirect Canarian Tax, which applies to all shipments. Bargain Balloons has no control over any additional fees that may apply to shipments.
